ME153 - Mechatronics

Catalog Description:
Topics include computer architecture, PIC processor overview, dynamicmodeling, sensors, data acquisition, digital PID control theory, andutilization of assembly language tocode the controller. Students will design, build and test a controllerboard and present a final prototype of a control system. Engineering economics will be introduces and integrated into the final project.

Project Overview:
To design and fabricate a small, wheeled, robot for competition in a robot sumo contest.
The design is taken through a complete prototyping cycle including:

  • sketches and drawings
  • CAD images
  • cost reports / procurement
  • machining
  • assembly
  • circuit design
  • microcontroller programming in PIC Assembly and C18
  • debugging
  • competition
