About

Prof. Andrea Newmark received her BA in Chemistry from Queens College and her MS and PhD from the Department of Chemical Engineering and Applied Chemistry at Columbia University. She joined the Chemistry Department at The Cooper Union in 1987.   She has worked with the Society of Women Engineers both professionally and with the student chapter at Cooper.  

Prof. Newmark is devoted to her students, and also likes working with younger children.  Over the years she has taken Cooper students into local school classrooms to conduct experiments teaching basic Chemistry concepts.  Along with Cooper students she has also brought grade school classes to Cooper and put on exciting Science Shows.  More recently with Cooper SWE she has taken part in their “Kids in Engineering Program”, which also serves to introduce elementary school children to the wonders of science.

In her free time Prof. Newmark enjoys working with Habitat for Humanity helping to build houses.  She has traveled to Guatemala and New Orleans with Habitat and has worked on many houses in Suffolk County Long Island.
